Travel

a travel junkie since my first solo train trip at age eleven, and first translantic Ocean Liner crossing as twelve

this photo was taken from the 118th floor observation deck of the Shanghai Tower, worlds third tallest building
on the right is the wedge shaped top of the Shanghai World Financial Centre, another supertall

Music

Music has always been a big part of my life. Listening, learning, jamming, performing… always just for enjoyment, always an amateur… a lifetime of songs… a personal soundtrack.

Into the West
an acoustic folk/pop duo consisting of Art on guitar and Rose Anne on cello

Work

enjoyed every job I’ve ever had…

field research technician; park warden; business owner; water resources officer; online English teacher; sound and lighting tech assistant; 35 mm movie projectionist; hardware store clerk; fishing guide

that’s Mount Logan in the background… I’m working on an automatic weather station at the Eclipse ice core drilling site at the 10,000 ft level in the Saint Elias Mountains, Yukon, Canada… the previous fall the instrument I’m working on was at the top of a >5 metre tower - later in the day we added more sections to raise the tower back up; note the ‘moon’ boots, MEC pants and Tilley hat

Some “Outside Stuff”

Running the Birdtail River in Manitoba in the 70’s with my brother-in-law Ian

We’re in the “The Surftamer”, a 17 ft aluminum canoe I bought from my Dad when we owned a hardware store in Birtle, Manitoba
(the blue wool toque is still around and in use, mostly by my wife Lorraine these days)
